As a new year begins, people often make resolutions for things they want to accomplish. One of the most common resolutions made each year is to get more exercise. Many health studies report that walking is one of the best forms of exercise and that walking 30 minutes a day can prevent heart disease, maintain weight and reduce stress, along with many other benefits.
Alameda is the perfect city to take walks because of the interesting neighborhoods, great paths and many parks to visit. This is also the perfect city to have a dog join you on your walks! Since most dogs need to have at least 30 minutes of exercise a day for their own good health, walking with your dog is the perfect win-win situation for both of you.
Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter currently has lots of dogs that could use a good walking partner. There's also Penny, a small and beautiful Pug/Chihuahua mix that loves walks and particularly enjoys hanging out in the sunshine. A short walk to the park and then some time resting on a bench in the sun is her perfect outing.
Tiger is a big boy with great leash manners. Named Tiger for his brown brindled coat, this handsome boy knows the basic commands of "sit" and "stay." Roxie is our power walker. She's a striking dark gray pit bull that enjoys a fast pace and stays focused on the world in front of her. She's fine on a leash and would like someone to keep pace with her and give her the love she so deserves.
These two dogs, and many more, are available for adoption to be your walking partner. Visit us at 1590 Fortmann Way in Alameda during our open hours of 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays.
Please remember to keep your beloved pets indoors on New Year's Eve so they don't panic from the fireworks and become lost on the streets. Everyone at FAAS wishes you a very Happy New Year!
