PLEASANTON -- Visitors to Alviso Adobe Community Park discovered that the holidays are also for wildlife.

Children taking part in the Dec. 21 Winter Fair at the Pleasanton park discovered the joy of giving, not just to family and friends, but to the birds, squirrels and other creatures foraging for their meals.

With helpers to oversee the work, children ages 5 to 12 created food-laden decorations to spruce up the park and feed the hungry critters.

The children also made their own old-fashioned ornaments for giving or keeping.

The program at the park, at 3465 Old Foothill Road, was sponsored by the city's Community Services Department.
