Balanced Cowboys bounce Rebels

  • Four players had at least nine points as the Livermore High boys basketball team beat San Lorenzo 49-46 in a nonleague game on Jan. 4 to improve to 9-2. Austin Medeiros led the Cowboys with 12 points. Benny Lokula and James Dayton each had 10 points, and sophomore Aaron Kawahara had nine points. The Cowboys opened East Bay Athletic League play at home against San Ramon Valley on Jan. 7 after this newspaper went to press. Livermore travels to Amador Valley on Jan. 10.

    Amador Valley thumps Irvington

  • Senior center Glenn Leininger had a game-high 16 points as the Amador Valley boys basketball team beat Irvington 59-40 on Jan. 4 to record its third straight nonleague win. Stokley Chaffee added 14 points for the Dons, and Scott Rasnick had 12 points. Amador Valley completed nonleague action with a 10-2 mark.

    Gilmete, Gaels roll over Westmoor

  • Sophomore Jordan Gilmete had 13 points as the Dublin boys basketball team crushed Westmoor 81-34 on Jan. 4 to finish nonleague play at 8-4. Freshman guard Tim Falls had six points, six assists and five steals for the winners. The Gaels host Miramonte in the Diablo Foothill Athletic League on Jan. 10.

    Livermore soccer wallops Washington

  • Jake Foscalina had two goals and Kevin Switzer and Daniel Garcia each had a goal and an assist as the Livermore boys soccer team routed Washington 6-2 in nonleague play on Jan. 4.

    Monte Vista rolls to 12th straight win

  • Trevor John had 19 points and Spencer Rust added 17 as the dominant Monte Vista boys basketball team crushed Granite Bay 65-47 on Jan. 4 to finish nonleague play with a 12-0 record..

    Dougherty Valley girls win overtime thriller

  • The surging Dougherty Valley girls basketball team bested Washington 59-55 in overtime on Jan. 4 in nonleague action for the Wildcats' fifth win in their last six games. Jordan Turner had 19 points and four assists for the Wildcats, and sophomore Skylar Jenkins had 16 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Alyssa Cruz had six points and five steals.

  • Collin Stafford, Livermore boys basketball -- The 6-foot-6 junior had a team-high 13 points in a 70-56 nonleague loss against Bay Valley Athletic League power Freedom on Jan. 2

  • Jake Foscalina, Livermore boys soccer --Foscalina scored twice in the Cowboys' 6-2 nonleague win over Washington.

  • Meera Harihara, Dougherty Valley girls basketball -- The 6-foot-1 senior center had 12 points and 12 rebounds in a 54-45 win over Soquel on Dec. 30 in the third place game of the Monterey Bay Sweet 16 tourney. She was also an all tournament selection.

  • Kamar Reese, Dougherty Valley boys basketball -- Reese had a game-high 22 points, including two big dunks, leading the Wildcats to a 62-51 win over tough Oakland in nonleague action on Jan. 3.

  • Lily Wissinger, Monte Vista girls basketball -- Wissinger had a game-high 17 points as the Mustangs beat St. Joseph Notre Dame 56-33 in the championship game of the Lady Cougar Classic on Dec. 30.
