California educators win Sandia Excellence in Teaching awards: Sandia/California National Laboratories, of Livermore, presented two local teachers with Excellence in Teaching Awards at a Livermore school district board meeting on Dec. 10. Terry Greenaway, a science specialist at Jackson Avenue Elementary School, and Kathy Hallenbeck, a chemistry teacher at Livermore High School, each received a $500 award. The Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes teachers who encourage students in math, science and technology.

Automotive skills mastered: Danville native Dakota Ricketts recently graduated from the Sacramento campus of Universal Technical Institute, provider of postsecondary education for students seeking careers as professional automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle and marine technicians. Ricketts attended San Ramon Valley High School before completing the Automotive Technology Training Program and the Ford Accelerated Training elective at UTI. Ricketts received Student of the Course awards for four different courses in recognition of classroom excellence. Ricketts has accepted a position at Autobahn Motors.
