Girls-5th grade

St. Michael-St. Charles 25, St. Raymond 19: Playing without half of its roster and four of five starters, the St. Michael-St. Charles fifth grade girls "A" team on held off visiting St. Raymond to clinch a first-place tie in CYO basketball regular season play. Haiden Arruda had 11 points, Sarah Kerling had 11 steals, Jackie Urban had 14 rebounds, and Erin Schrader, Kendall Waugh and fourth-grader Natalie Urban provided clutch support throughout.

Water polo

On Jan. 25, the Livermore Lazers hosted their third and final tournament of the Livermore Area Recreation & Parks water polo club's Winter Session at Robert Livermore Community Center.

Among the Level I standouts were goalie Britney Pettit, along with offensive stars Brady Scanlon and Ethan Fovel, and defensive specialist Rylee Mora.

For the Level II boys, goalie Scott Ragatz was outstanding, and teammates Cole Markley and Nathan Williams played well offensively. Luca Cuppoletti also played well at the two-meter position.

For the Level II girls, Madeline Nelson and Gianna Paden played well at both ends of the pool, and Alyssa Bergmann had some nice saves as goalie.

The 16U group ended play with a 3-0 victory, and were led by Tyler Paden's aggressive drives and Harry Yee made several game-saving blocks.

Michael Brooks' led the 18U boys at the West Valley College Tournament with his leadership and constant movement. Andrew Kettenhofen provided a spark with several goals and strong defense.

The 18U girls lost three games over the weekend, but Michelle Hawkins played solid throughout.

The 16U girls won two of their three games; Hannah Carlson played excellent in the goal, while Hannah Borjon, Katlyn Johnson and Elizabeth Bukus were top performers in front of Carlson.

On Jan. 11, the Lazers hosted the second of three Winter Session water polo tournaments in which 18 teams representing nine Tri-Valley area clubs competed in stormy weather conditions.

Level I standouts included cousins Luke and Brady Scanlon, who provided the offense. Camden Kiernan, Ethan Fovel, and Rylee Mora also provided highlights on both sides of the ball, while Jackie Urban led the team with a goal and two assists.

Playing as part of a girls' 8th-grade and under team, Emily McElroy did a great job in the goal and Madison Weiglein was the top offensive player. Defender Kelsey Mahurin had a strong all-around effort.

For the Level II boys, Noah Pettit was the offensive star and Nathan Williams led the defense. Goalie Scott Ragatz earned praise from head coach Matt Croghan as an "absolute monster in the cage."

Tumbling & Trampoline

Livermore's Springtime Tumbling and Trampoline hosted the Springtime Invite on Jan. 18. Twenty-seven T&T gymnasts competed in trampoline, double-mini trampoline, and tumbling. Springtime won seven first place medals in each of the events.
