Common Core parent seminars on school changes offered free

Parents of Dublin public school children are invited to a series of workshops from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 19-20 on how new state Common Core standards will affect students' education.

The parent education nights will be held at Dublin High School, 8151 Village Parkway. Signups are not mandatory, but Dublin school officials encourage parents to register in advance by 5 p.m. Monday to assure adequate space. To sign up, visit www.dublin.k12.ca.us/dusd and click on "register for parent information nights."

Parents can attend one or both nights of the workshops on how reading and math education is changing. Free child care will be provided.

Special-needs-student panel seeks applicants

The Dublin school district's advisory committee on improving academic performance of students with special needs is seeking applications from Dublin residents for seven openings.

The Local Control Accountability Plan panel will examine ways to close the academic gap for students who have limited English skills, come from low-income backgrounds or are in foster care.

Applications are due 4 p.m. Feb. 21. For information and to get online applications, visit the district website at www.dublin.k12.ca.us/dusd and click on "District seeks parent reps for LCAP.
