Citing his desire to become an on-campus coach after he completes his master's degree, Joe Tenorio resigned as Encinal High football coach on Thursday after a highly successful eight-year run.
Tenorio, 36, said his career was at a crossroads and added that if he wanted to become an on-campus coach, he felt he needed to leave Encinal.
"It was time to move on," Tenorio said.
Tenorio coached at Encinal for eight seasons, compiling an overall record of 64-26 that included four straight Bay Shore Athletic League titles from 2008-2011 and the 2008 North Coast Section Division III championship. The Jets went 8-3 last season with a 4-1 mark in the West Alameda County Conference-Foothill Division.
Tenorio said he will complete his master's degree at Saint Mary's College this summer.
Encinal High athletic director Micki Singer could not immediately be reached for comment.
