Aisia Robertson scored 13 of her 18 points in the first half on Feb. 14 to help lead the Bishop O'Dowd High girls basketball team to a 49-44 win over visiting Berkeley that clinched the West Alameda County Conference-Foothill Division title.
Daniella Williams added 14 points and Asha Thomas 12 as the Dragons struggled through a frustrating second half to prevail.
"We couldn't find the basket; this was one of the games when I tell the girls that defense is going to win the game," Dragons coach Malik McCord said.
For O'Dowd (21-4, 8-0 WACC-Foothill), the win was its second against the Yellowjackets this season, having won in Berkeley 56-47 on Jan. 17.
For the rematch, the teams played evenly in the first half, with the Dragons going into halftime with a 31-29 lead.
O'Dowd started the second half cold. But Berkeley (16-7, 5-2) struggled too, as shot after shot either clanked off the rim or bounced off the glass for both teams.
Still, the Yellowjackets made a game of it, as the score was tied 35-35 through three quarters.
Berkeley senior Desire Finnie led all scorers with 23 points. Xinavane Forman added 11 for the Yellowjackets.
Bishop O'Dowd will look to remain sharp when it closes its regular season with an away game against Castro Valley on Feb. 21.
Bishop O'Dowd 99, Berkeley 64: Ivan Rabb scored a game-high 30 points and teammate Paris Austin added 23 as the host Dragons overwhelmed Berkeley on Feb. 14. The Dragons held a 56-30 lead at halftime and a 77-51 advantage after the third quarter.
