Alameda police officers serving a warrant and carrying out a probation search in Oakland arrested two men, including one who allegedly tried to grab an officer's handgun while he was being detained.
The man, 23, who also refused officers' commands, faces a charge of resisting or obstructing police after the incident, which took place about 5:40 p.m. Sunday at the Jack London Inn on Embarcadero West in Oakland, according to police.
Police said the other man arrested is also 23 and was wanted on charges of domestic violence and making criminal threats, both of which are felonies. He was also wanted on an outstanding felony warrant.
THURSDAY, FEB. 20 VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen about 3:30 p.m. in the 2500 block of Blanding Avenue. RESISTING POLICE -- An 18-year-old man was arrested about 5:20 p.m. in the 1100 block of Park Street on suspicion of resisting or obstructing police after he allegedly provided an officer with a false name to conceal that he was wanted on two outstanding misdemeanor warrants. The no-bail warrants were issued when the man was a juvenile, police said. CONCEALED WEAPON -- A passenger in a vehicle that an officer pulled over for a traffic stop was arrested after he was found in possession of a concealed pistol with a high-capacity magazine, police said. The firearm was also not registered to the 19-year-old man, police said. The driver, also 19, was arrested because he did not have a license, and a 17-year-old girl who was a passenger was also arrested.
FRIDAY, FEB. 21 VEHICLE THEFT -- Vehicles were reported stolen about 8:40 a.m. in the 1500 block of Eastshore Drive and in the 1600 block of Minturn Street. MISAPPROPRIATION OF LOST PROPERTY -- A man, 46, was arrested after an officer found him in possession of someone else's bicycle, a violation of the terms of his probation. The arrest occurred about 11:15 p.m. at San Antonio Avenue and Union Street. DRUG POSSESSION -- Police arrested two men about 11:30 p.m. after initially detaining them for riding bicycles at night without headlights. One man, 24, was in possession of suspected methamphetamine and narcotics paraphernalia, plus less than one ounce of marijuana, police said. His companion, 37, was wanted on an outstanding felony warrant.
SATURDAY, FEB. 22 DRUNKEN DRIVING -- Police arrested a man, 28, on suspicion of drunken driving following a traffic stop about 12:45 a.m. in the 1100 block of Central Avenue. BURGLARY -- Someone stole bicycles belonging to three individuals after braking into a locked garage in the 300 block of Broadway. The theft was reported about 1:15 p.m. Another burglary was reported about 5:45 p.m. in the 3000 block of Madison Street, where someone entered a backyard through an open side gate and stole a backpack before entering the residence and stealing a laptop from the kitchen. VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen just after 3 p.m. in the 3500 block of Oleander Avenue. COMMERCIAL BURGLARY -- A 22-year-old man faces a burglary charge after he allegedly entered Walgreens on Webster Street with the intent to steal merchandise. The man, who was arrested about 2:30 p.m. at the business, was also wanted on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, police said. DRUG POSSESSION -- A man whom officers contacted as a suspicious person was arrested after he was found in possession of suspected methamphetamine, police said. An officer found the substance after learning the man, 49, could be searched as a condition of his probation. The arrest occurred about 9:35 p.m. at Santa Clara Avenue and Walnut Street.
SUNDAY, FEB. 23 RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE -- Police recovered a vehicle stolen in Oakland just before 1 a.m. in the 1200 block of Regent Street. OUTSTANDING WARRANT -- Police arrested a 25-year-old motorist following a traffic stop at Park Street and Central Avenue, where a background check showed that he had never been issued a driver's license. The man, who was arrested about 1:05 a.m., was wanted on three misdemeanor warrants, while his female passenger, 23, was also arrested as a result of a misdemeanor warrant, police said. GRAND THEFT -- Someone stole an outboard motor from a boat in the 1800 block of Clement Avenue. DRUG POSSESSION -- Police arrested a man, 47, just before 2 p.m. in the 1600 block of Schiller Street, where an officer learned he could be searched as a condition of his probation and allegedly found him in possession of methamphetamine. Another man, 55, who was with him, was also arrested after police learned he was wanted on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant stemming from a traffic violation in Oakland. BURGLARY -- A purse was stolen after a burglar entered a residence in the 700 block of Lincoln Avenue, police said. It was not immediately clear how the thief entered the home. The burglary was reported at 5:25 p.m.
