Albany police log: Car abandoned on Solano Avenue; grandmother reported robbed on her way to church; dog biting reports on waterfront

MONDAY, Feb. 17 ROBBERY -- An attempted robbery was committed at about 8:30 p.m. at the YMCA in the 900 block of Kains Avenue. The suspect is a 15-year-old male juvenile wearing a black hoodie, bluejeans, a red bandanna and tennis shoes and carrying a knife. He was last seen headed north toward Solano Avenue on foot and was gone when officers arrived.
TUESDAY, Feb. 18 NO LICENSE -- At 9:15 a.m. officers arrested a 32-year-old Albany man at Target in the 1000 block of Eastshore for suspicion of driving with a suspended license. HOME BREAK -- A Washington Avenue residence was broken into during the day.
WEDNESDAY, Feb. 19 NO LICENSE -- Officers arrested a 44-year-old Berkeley man near San Pablo Avenue and Dartmouth Street at 8:30 a.m. for suspicion of driving with a suspended license and an outstanding warrant.
THURSDAY, Feb. 20 DRUGS -- Shortly after midnight officers arrested a 45-year-old Albany man near Buchanan and Cerrito streets for suspicion of drug possession and a probation violation. DUI -- Officers stopped a vehicle near Merced and Madera streets at 2:30 a.m. for a vehicle code violation and arrested a 51-year-old Berkeley man for suspicion of DUI. AUTO BREAK-IN -- At 6 p.m. thieves broke the window of a locked vehicle on Garfield Street that was running and had a purse inside. The owner had just run back into the house and returned to find the purse missing.
FRIDAY, Feb. 21 ASSAULT -- Officers investigated a person on San Pablo Avenue near Washington Avenue who was acting suspiciously. They arrested the 35-year-old San Francisco man for suspicion of assault and resisting arrest. VANDALISM -- The south side of a residence on Washington Avenue was tagged overnight. ROBBERY -- At 7:30 a.m. a caller reported that a woman was robbed of her purse while she was walking in the area of Albany Hill about 5:30 a.m. DOUBLE ARREST -- Officers stopped a vehicle in the 1100 block of Solano Avenue at 8 p.m. for a vehicle code violation. They arrested the driver, a 42-year-old Oakland woman, for suspicion of two counts of DUI. They also arrested the passenger, a 45-year-old Oakland man for violating a restraining order and an outstanding warrant.
SATURDAY, Feb. 22 DISTURBANCE -- At 1 a.m. officers responded to the 500 block of San Pablo Avenue on reports of a group of noisy people in the Albany Bowl parking lot. They arrested a 32-year-old Hayward woman for suspicion of disorderly conduct. DOG BITE -- Officers investigated a complaint at noon that a person was attacked by two pit bull dogs, one dark gray and one dirty white, while out at the Albany Bulb. TOW -- At 2 p.m. officers towed a vehicle that was abandoned in the middle of Solano Avenue with the hazard lights on and blocking the roadway.
SUNDAY, Feb. 23 WARRANT -- A 38-year-old Berkeley man was arrested at Happy Donut in the 900 block of San Pablo Avenue for an outstanding warrant at 4:30 a.m. ROBBERY -- At 11 a.m. a caller reported that their grandmother had been the victim of a strong-arm robbery at 8:30 a.m. while walking on Evelyn Avenue on her way to church in Berkeley. DOG BITE -- Officers received a report about noon of a 17-year-old girl who had been bit by a dog while at the Albany Bulb earlier in the morning. DOUBLE ARREST -- Officers investigated a disturbance near Buchanan and Pierce streets at 3 p.m. They arrested a 42-year-old Richmond man for suspicion of assault on a police officer and a 30-year-old Vallejo woman for suspicion of domestic violence causing injury and identity theft. DRUGS -- At 8:30 p.m. a 51-year-old transient man living at the Albany waterfront was arrested for suspicion of two counts of drug possession.
MONDAY, Feb. 24 DUI -- Officers stopped a vehicle on San Pablo Avenue near Harrison Street for a vehicle code violation. They arrested the driver, a 32-year-old Los Angeles man, for suspicion of DUI.
