Troop 1630 awards Eagle Scout rank: Scout Samuel Ian Perrings of Troop 1630, under the leadership of Steve Miller, has been awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest advancement given by the Boy Scouts of America. For his Eagle project Perrings designed and supervised the construction of two wooden benches at Montair Elementary School in Danville. He is the son of Sonda and David Perrings, of Danville, and is a senior at San Ramon Valley High School. He works part-time for the Town of Danville in the Recreation Department.

Pleasanton police awards: The Pleasanton Police Department has announced its 2013 Officer of the Year and Professional Staff Employee of the Year awards. Employees throughout the organization nominate their peers for their contributions. This year, the members of the department have honored Detective Matthew Lengel with the distinction of Pleasanton Police Officer of the Year and Community Service Officer Shannon Revel-Whitaker with the distinction of Pleasanton Police Professional Staff Member of the Year.

During 2013, Lengel was the lead investigator, or was involved with, every major investigation the department has faced. He has also contributed to the department by participating as an instructor/facilitator in the Citizens Academy, Teen Academy and various other community outreach programs.

Revel-Whitaker has served the organization as the crime prevention community service officer since January 2007. She devoted much of her time in 2013 to advancing the police department's community outreach efforts through social media. Her Facebook and Nixle followings have more than 4,000 people.
