Foothill High's winter guard contest Saturday

Foothill High School band boosters will hold the school's annual Winter Guard, Percussion and Drum Major competition Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the Foothill High School campus, 4375 Foothill Road.

The Foothill High School Marching Band is one of the most successful high school bands in the state, and the event also will showcase the best talent from high schools across the region, with more than 100 performances scheduled for the all-day event.

Drum majors start the day at 8 a.m. in the stadium with awards at 4:45 p.m. In the large gym, percussion competitions start at 9 a.m. followed by winter guards at 1 p.m. Awards are presented at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 for all events all day. Kids 5 and younger get in free. Snacks and souvenirs will be sold. All proceeds will benefit the Foothill music program.

City offers youth sports camps for spring break

The city is offering several youth sports camps over spring break from March 31 to April 4. A volleyball camp for youths 8 to 14 will be held daily from 3 to 6 p.m. from March 31 to April 3 at the Pleasanton Middle School Gym.

Youths 6 to 14 can sign up for a four-day basketball camp for players of all skill levels that will be held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 31 to April 3 at the Pleasanton Middle School Gym. On the same days, a fundamentals basketball camp will be held for boys and girls ages 6 to 15 from 9 a.m. to noon at Thomas Hart Middle School.

Multisport camps for youths ages 4 to 12 and a flag football camp for 6- to 12-year-old youths will be held from 9 a.m. to noon March 31 through April 4 at Thomas Hart Middle School. To register, visit www.PleasantonFun.com or call 925-931-3439 for information.
