St. Joseph Notre Dame handles Richmond

  • The St. Joseph Notre Dame baseball team had eight hits and took advantage of seven Richmond errors to earn a 10-0 win in six innings over the Oilers on March 21 in TCAL play. Sophomore Satchel Fisher threw all six innings for the Pilots, allowing just one hit and one walk and striking out eight. St. Joseph Notre Dame scored four runs in the first and added three more in the fifth to take a 9-0 lead, as it went on to improve its record to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in TCAL play. Angel Munoz went 3 for 4 in the victory with two runs scored.

    Skyline stays perfect in OAL play

  • The Skyline High baseball team entered the week in first place in the Oakland Athletic League after a pair of league wins last week. The Titans beat McClymonds 13-3 on March 19, then topped Oakland 15-8 on March 21. Against McClymonds, Skyline had a 5-3 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning when it scored two runs, and a six-run sixth inning put the game out of reach for the Titans. Pitcher Rene Cruz went the distance for Skyline, allowing seven hits, Ryan Wi and Kevin Newton each had doubles and Jayson Allen had a triple.

    Jacobs' no-hitter paces Albany baseball

  • Senior pitcher Carl Jacobs threw a no-hitter to lead the Albany High baseball team to a 8-0 win over El Cerrito on March 21 in Tri-County Athletic League play. Jacobs struck out seven with three walks and two hit batsmen, but helped his own cause by going 2-for-4 at the plate. Albany finished with nine hits, as it scored two runs in the first inning and four more in the second to give Jacobs all of the run support he would need. Jack Johnson went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Clayton McDonald was 3-for-4 with a run scored. The win improved Albany's record to 4-5 overall record and 3-1 record in the TCAL, and El Cerrito dropped to 4-3-1 overall and 2-1 in league play.

  • Bishop O'Dowd vs. Mater Dei-Santa Ana, boys basketball, March 29, 8 p.m. -- The top two boys basketball teams in California, according to Cal-Hi Sports, meet at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento for the California Interscholastic Federation Open Division state championship. Bishop O'Dowd, fresh off a 70-60 win over Capital Christian-Sacramento in the Northern Regional Open Division final, takes on a Mater Dei team that improved to 34-0 with a 59-54 win over Westchester-Los Angeles in the Southern Regional final.

  • St. Mary's at El Cerrito, softball, March 28, 3:45 p.m. -- The Panthers travel to El Cerrito to face the league rival Gauchos in a game between two teams looking to rejoin the TCAL title race.

  • Nathaniel Price-Hansen, Berkeley baseball -- Price-Hansen went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead the Yellowjackets to a 10-3 win over Tennyson in West Alameda County conference play.

  • Alexis Scalzo, Bishop O'Dowd softball -- The sophomore infielder went 2-for-3 for the Dragons in their 3-0 WACC loss to Arroyo.
