Jets split series with 'Jackets after big win n The Encinal High baseball team scored three runs in the top of the 11th inning to defeat Berkeley 3-1 on April 17. Andrew Leung threw nine innings of one-run ball for the Jets before Nick Solis finished the game for the win. Kaleo Johnson slammed a solo home run in the first inning for the Jets. Berkeley's Noah Bremer pitched the first 10 innings, allowing only one run and striking out 8. The opening game of the series had much more offense, as Berkeley edged Encinal 7-6 on April 16. David Langer was 3 for 4 with a run scored and four RBIs for the Yellowjackets, and teammate Xavier Williams was also 3 for 4 with three runs scored. Shan Dhaliwal was 1 for 2 with two run scored and two RBIs for Berkeley.

O'Dowd and Alameda split baseball series

  • The Bishop O'Dowd High School baseball team took a 4-2 lead in the third inning on its way to a 12-2 victory over Alameda on April 16. Cory Barrios, Robbie Achramowicz and Channing Nesbitt each had two hits and a run batted in for O'Dowd. Ryan Fong, Alex Vick and Trevor Greenley each produced two hits for Alameda. On April 17, Joe Riley threw a three-hitter on just 77 pitches with no walks as Alameda defeated Bishop O'Dowd 2-1. Mitchell Nakahara delivered the game-winning walk-off hit with two outs in the seventh inning. Leo Nierenberg struck out 10 and walked none in a complete-game pitching performance for O'Dowd, and Nesbitt drove in the team's only run in the top of the first inning.

    Alameda High youth basketball camps

  • Alameda High School is holding four-day youth basketball camps for boys and girls ages 8-14 at Alameda High. The girls camp is June 17-20 and the boys camp runs June 23-26. The camps will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The fee is $150 before May 1, $175 after that and $200 at the door (if available).   • Alexis Scalzo, Bishop O'Dowd softball -- Scalzo was named co-Most Valuable Player of the Standley Cup tournament. In three games, she was 4 for 9 with six RBI as the Dragons were co-champions of the tournament.

  • Xavier Williams, Berkeley baseball -- Williams was 3 for 4 with three runs scored in the Yellowjackets' 7-6 win over Encinal on April 16.
