Hornets split with 'Jackets

Alameda High School baseball player Michael Woodworth (1) tags out Berkeley's Alex Rowland on his attempt to steal second during a West Alameda County Conference-Foothill Division game on April 26. The host Yellowjackets won 2-1 with a walk-off RBI single by Noah Suszckiewicz. Mitchell Nakahara was 2 for 2 in the game for Alameda, and teammate Matt Esparza allowed only one run on three hits in six innings on the mound, and he struck out four batters. On April 23, Alameda's Joe Riley fired a four-hitter as the Hornets beat Berkeley 5-2. Trevor Greenley was 2 for 3 at the plate, including a double, and Ryan Fong was 1 for 3 with two runs scored and a stolen base for Alameda. Isaac DeLaO lined a two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning for the Hornets. In a 5-1 nonleague victory over Valley Christian-Dublin on April 21, Esparza and Thomas Johnson combined for a no-hitter with six strikeouts in a 5-1 victory. Greenley was 2 for 4 in the win.
