Foothill wins thriller over De La Salle

  • The Foothill High baseball team scored four times in the top of the 14th inning to take an 8-4 win over host De La Salle on April 30 in East Bay Athletic League action. The Falcons turned a rare triple play in the bottom of the 10th inning to keep the score tied at 4-4. The Falcons' Ryan Anderson was 3 for 6 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

    EBAL girls excel at Sacramento MOC

  • EBAL competitors took the top three spots in the girls high jump at the Sacramento Meet of Champions on May 3 at American River College. Granada senior Kirsten Mork and the California duo of Lillianna Hebert and Jennifer Kurtz each cleared 5 feet, 4 inches, but Mork got the nod for first place. Monte Vista sophomore Brooke Starn was third in the girls 1,600 meters in 4 minutes, 58.99 seconds, and Livermore senior Alexandra Hernandez was fourth in 5:02.57.

    Soltis boosts Granada to win over Foothill

  • Casey Soltis was 2 for 3 with a solo home run and two RBIs as the surging Granada baseball team beat visiting Foothill 5-2 on May 1. Turner Hartley went 62/3 innings to get the victory, allowing one earned run, striking out four and allowing five hits.

    Halstead, Monte Vista get past Livermore

  • Senior catcher Lucas Halstead was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases as Monte Vista's baseball team beat Livermore 5-1 on May 2. The Mustangs entered the week with a 10-10 overall record and a 3-7 mark in the EBAL.

    Paglia paces California lacrosse

  • Angelo Beacon Paglia had two goals and three assists, lifting the California boys lacrosse team to a 10-7 win over Amador Valley on May 2 in EBAL play. Jaime Preston and Noah Bergman led the Grizzlies with three goals apiece. California improved to 13-5 overall and 4-4 in league.

  • NCS Division I singles and doubles championship, boys tennis, May 9-10, 9 a.m. -- Tri-Valley area standouts will head to San Rosa High for the North Coast Section Division I championships.

  • NCS Tournament of Champions, boys golf, May 12, 7:30 a.m. -- Foothill will be looking for its fifth straight team title at the NCS Tournament of Champions at Peacock Gap Golf Course in San Rafael.

  • Mecca McGlaston, Dublin track and field -- McGlaston had a strong showing at the Sacramento Meet of Champions with a first-place finish in the women's 100-meter hurdles in a time of 13.99 seconds and a runner-up finish in the 200 meters in 25.68.

  • Taylor Zehr, Granada softball -- Zehr was 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs as the Matadors beat Foothill 4-1 on May 1.

  • Sydney Biekert, San Ramon Valley track and field -- Biekert, a senior, finished second in the girls triple jump and first in the 100 hurdles at the Open Session of the Sacramento Meet of Champions. Her mark in the triple jump was 36 feet, 81/4 inches; she ran 15.43 in the hurdles.

  • Anant Mundra, San Ramon Valley tennis -- Mundra won the EBAL singles tennis title with a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 win over Monte Vista's Adrian Sirovica in the championship match at Crow Canyon Country Club on May 2.
