HAYWARD -- Police said they are investigating a suspicious death after the body of a missing Hayward man turned up in the trunk of his car in unincorporated San Leandro.

Officers were dispatched at 4:25 p.m. Friday to an undisclosed address in unincorporated San Leandro after someone called 911 to say they had found a man's body, Sgt. Eric Melendez said.

Officers located the man in the car's trunk and determined he was dead. The victim, a 30-year-old Hayward man whose name has not been released, had been reported missing by his family May 6.

Foul play is not suspected, Melendez said, but the death has been labeled suspicious until the Alameda County Coroner's Office determines how the man died.

An autopsy was scheduled to take place this week, police said.
