Tourism, special events grant money available

The city of Livermore is giving away $5,000 in tourism and special event grants to qualifying organizations.

The city will take applications until May 30 for five grants of $1,000 to be awarded to groups that successfully demonstrate a direct benefit of their events to Livermore downtown businesses and local wineries. Events must be held between July 1, 2014 and June 15, 2015, bring in a minimum of 1,000 expected attendees and encourage tourism.

Organizations can send an application, along with supporting documentation, to city Economic Development Specialist Theresa De La Vega at 1052 S. Livermore Ave, Livermore, CA 94550.

LIVERMORE

Firefighters gear up for hook, ladder run

The Livermore-Pleasanton Firefighters Foundation, a nonprofit supporting injured and fallen firefighters, will hold its fifth annual Hook and Ladder Run at Wente Vineyards on June 2.

The event consists of a 5K run/walk, 10K run and a 1-mile fun run for children ages 12 and younger. The 5K and 10K start at 8 a.m. with the fun run following at 9:30 a.m. Awards will be handed out to the top three finishers in each age group. Finisher ribbons, ice cream and fire prevention material will be provided to all children. Registration closes May 25. To register, visit www.onyourmarkevents.com.
