OAKLAND -- A man struck and killed at the West Oakland BART station was identified Saturday as 22-year-old Tyler Worden of El Cerrito, authorities said.
Worden was walking on the tracks headed toward the Transbay Tube when a San Francisco-bound BART train departed from the station and struck him at about 10:15 p.m., transit officials said.
BART halted service between Oakland and San Francisco, leaving passengers stuck on the involved train for nearly two hours as investigators and firefighters arrived to remove Worden, spokeswoman Alicia Trost said.
Because of the location of the collision -- away from the train platform and on an aerial structure -- power to the tracks was shut off while firefighters used a ladder truck to reach Worden, Trost said.
Service resumed at around 12:05 a.m. Saturday, Trost said. BART police were investigating the death Saturday afternoon.
