Between the Vines is a biweekly column on wine and wine making in the Livermore Valley region. This column was contributed by the Livermore Valley Winegrowers Association.

Livermore Valley wine country's picturesque, vine-covered hills and proximity to major Bay Area cities make it a perfect spot for weddings.

"At Wente Vineyards, couples can have their ceremonies on the grounds surrounded by vineyards or in our historic sandstone caves," said Heather Jones, a catering sales director. "We design weddings to express the couple's personal style."

Wente has hosted special events since 1986 and does about 200 weddings a year between three locations: the Terrace Lawn and Event Center; the Vineyard Lawn; and Murrieta's Well. Jones said many couples return to celebrate anniversaries, baby showers and other special occasions at The Restaurant at Wente Vineyards on Arroyo Road.

Nella Terra Cellars is a new winery set on 100 private acres in Sunol -- the southern tip of Livermore Valley wine country, just 20 minutes from Silicon Valley with easy access from Interstate 680 and Sheridan Road. The venue features a beautiful ceremony space with a flagstone pathway, wrought iron pergola, a natural rock wall and waterfall.

"The privacy and quiet at Nella Terra gives couples a one-of-a-kind venue for their once-in-a-lifetime day," said owner Paulette Beemiller. "Many are drawn to the country calm, reminiscent of a simpler time, often with cows grazing in the distance."

Perched at the highest elevation of any winery in Livermore with breathtaking views of the valley and Mount Diablo, 3 Steves Winery is another of the many options for wedding locations. The home on the winery property is available for bridal parties, offering the bride and bridesmaids a comfortable place to get ready for the special event.

"At 3 Steves, wedding ceremonies are performed on a hardwood deck platform overlooking our vineyard and the entire Livermore Valley," said co-owner Steve Ziganti. "The sunsets from the wedding platform and lawns are beautiful beyond words."

The breathtaking vineyard views at Las Positas Vineyards on Wetmore Road in Livermore make its Vista Patio a popular spot for weddings. The young winery began hosting special events and weddings in 2012 and has done more than 50 events. The winery also has a large event room, tasting room, private dining room and bridal changing room.

"Las Positas Vineyards is the perfect venue for intimate, in-the-vineyard events," said Debbie Scopelite, event coordinator. "The rolling hills and rows of vineyards offers a private setting for your special day and gorgeous backdrops for photos."

Livermore Valley also has several beautiful event centers. The newest is Bella Rosa, which opened in June at Garre Winery on Tesla Road. This stunning venue combines Old World charm with a state-of-the-art facility that can accommodate up to 370 guests. Other wine country event centers include Casa Real and the Palm Event Center on Vineyard Avenue in Pleasanton and Martinelli Center on Greenville Road in Livermore.
