A number of local baseball players were named to the Cal-Hi-Sports.com all-state teams this month.

Berkeley High senior pitcher Noah Bremer was selected third-team all-state, and Bishop O'Dowd sophomore pitcher Leo Nierenberg was named second-team all-state underclass (sophomores and juniors last season). Head-Royce junior Nico Hoerner was a second-team all-state underclass pick as an infielder, and was also a first-team all-state small schools selection.

Encinal senior Kaleo Johnson was a first-team all-state medium school pick at catcher and Bishop O'Dowd senior Channing Nesbitt was a second-team all-state medium-school selection at infielder.

GOLF

The East Bay will be well represented later this month in both the U.S. Junior Amateur and U.S Girls Junior tournaments.

Alameda's Melissa Yao is headed to the girls event after firing a round of 72 at Peach Tree Golf and Country Club in Marysville on June 30 to qualify for the girls tournament. She'll be joined by Yealimi Noh of Concord and Ty Akabane of Danville, who qualified on the same date at Stockton Golf and Country Club.

Dublin High's Jacob Solomon and De La Salle's Josh McCarthy (Danville) recently qualified for the boys tournament, which will be held at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Tex. from July 21-26. The girls Junior tournament will be played on the same dates at Forest Highlands Golf Club in Flagstaff, Ariz.
