School district names two new principals

The Pleasanton school system has announced the selection of two new principals -- Jake Berg at Lydiksen Elementary School and Karen Johnson at Alisal Elementary School.

Berg, currently a Pleasanton elementary school vice principal, taught fourth grade at Lydiksen for nine years. He received a bachelor's degree in journalism and communication from the University of Oregon and a master's in education from National University.

Johnson has been the vice principal at Stone Valley Middle School in Alamo since 2012. She previously taught in elementary and middle schools. Johnson has a bachelor's degree in sociology from UC Berkeley, and a master's degree in counseling and psychology from the University of Santa Clara.

Free drought-resistant landscaping workshop

City residents are invited to sign up for a free workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 23 on planning drought-resistance landscaping and minimizing irrigation water use in gardens.

Call 925-931-5504 to sign up for the limited space in the workshop at the Pleasanton operations service center, 3333 Busch Road. Landscape architect and author Sarah Sutton will speak. Pleasanton residents and businesses face penalties on their water bills if they fail to reduce water use by 25 percent.
