PLEASANTON -- All local residents are invited to candlelight vigil Tuesday at Amaral Park in Pleasanton to honor those killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre and show support for their families.

Sponsored by the Mohr Elementary School PTA, the vigil will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the park, at 3400 Dennis Drive.

"We can only imagine the pain the families are feeling at the loss of their innocent, precious children," said Kristy Galvan, a Mohr Elementary PTA member who is organizing the vigil. "We just had to do something to show our outpouring of support."

The vigil will provide a forum for attendees to read from prepared writings, offer prayers, sing carols, and recite poems, and children and other attendees are invited to bring notes and pictures that will be bundled and sent to the affected families and the community of Newtown at large.

Donations for the families will be also be accepted at the vigil, and can be dropped off at a designated table. Checks can be made out to: Sandy Hook School Support Fund, c/o Newtown Savings Bank, 39 Main St., Newtown, CT 06470. Checks will be processed through the United Way of Western Connecticut.
