TWO BART UNIONS SET CONTRACT VOTES: Two BART unions have scheduled ratification votes on a tentative contract settlement, while a third union for train operators and station agents is still trying to iron out final details of the accord.
Under a deal reached Friday on a four-year contract, workers would get no pay increase in the first year; a $500 lump sum payment or bonus in the second year; a $1,000 payment in the third year; and a $1,500 lump sum in the fourth year, district and union officials said. The unions also agreed to concessions on work rules and employee contributions toward benefits.
Jesse Hunt, president of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1555, said his group hopes to schedule a vote soon after negotiating some contract language details with BART managers.
Service Employees Union Local 1021, the largest BART union, will vote on the contract Thursday, while the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3993 has scheduled a vote for Tuesday, presidents of those unions said.
