Tim Fiock, a senior at Kennedy High School who contributed time and love in raising a puppy for Guide Dogs for the Blind, recently was pleased to see the dog graduate as a guide.

On Aug. 29, Philbin, a yellow Labrador retriever, was presented to graduating student Odie John Lofton, of Nevada, Iowa, in a formal ceremony at the Guide Dog campus in San Rafael.

Tim lives in Fremont with his parents, Bill and Gail Fiock, and brother Thomas. He is a member of the local guide dog puppy raising club, Tri-Valley Guide Dogs, led by Ellen Aguirre.

    Two Fremont men, Army Pfc. David A. Steinert and Army Pfc. Sosefo V. Pousima, have completed nine weeks of basic combat training. Steinert received his basic training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla., and Pousima received his basic training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

    Steinert is the son of David Steinert of Fremont, and Susan Tamberg of Antioch. He is a 1993 graduate of Washington High School.

    Pousima, the brother of Liciola Pousima of Fremont, is a 2005 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School.
