An Alameda man reported missing last month was located in Modesto, where he turned up at a homeless shelter.

Dante Marshall, who has the mental capacity of a 12-year-old and who has a history of going missing, was staying at the shelter under an assumed name, police said.

Investigators announced Monday that the 29-year-old Marshall was located.

It happened after authorities at the shelter contacted Modesto police to report that Marshall was involved in an altercation at the facility.

A patrol officer who was sent to the center recognized Marshall from the missing person flier that Alameda police had sent to law enforcement agencies.

Marshall vanished after he told his family that he was going to visit the flea market at Oakland's Laney College.

His family became worried when he did not return home, especially since he had recently expressed an interest in traveling to Disneyland, as well as to San Jose and Los Angeles.

After he disappeared in the past, Marshall was located in San Francisco, Cloverdale, Dublin, Petaluma, Stockton, Grass Valley, Fairfield, Monterey and Reno. He was also found on at least one other occasion in Modesto.
