CONCORD — Police arrested two men suspected of being involved in a shooting early Sunday morning, after an off-duty officer heard gunfire and spotted a car speeding on Detroit Avenue.
Concord police responded about 2:35 a.m. and saw several men run from a vehicle on Detroit Avenue near Tioga Road. Officers arrested James Barry, 21 of Pleasant Hill on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance, in connection with the shooting of a 20-year-old man who suffered a non life-threatening gunshot wound.
The victim's name was not available Sunday afternoon, said Lt. Brian Wiesendanger. The man was treated at a hospital and released, Wiesendanger said.
Police also arrested Ricardo Cardone, 18, of Concord, on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest, after a K-9 dog bit Cardone while he was hiding in some bushes, refusing to come out. Cardone suffered minor injuries, Wiesendanger said.
"The search for the third suspect was unsuccessful," he said.
The man who escaped was described as dark-skinned, wearing all black clothing. The vehicle was impounded and no gun was found, Wiesendanger said.
He said the controlled substance was believed to be ecstasy.
