ANTIOCH — A man was arrested after a money pack given to him during a bank holdup exploded, covering him in dye that helped lead to his capture, police said.
John Teal, 32, of Dublin was arrested on suspicion of robbing the Bank of America in the 2500 block of Somersville Road. Police say he robbed the same bank five years ago.
According to police, today's robbery was reported about 10 a.m. when Teal entered the bank branch and handed a teller a note saying he had a gun and wanted money. The teller gave him a bundle of money with a hidden dye pack.
He left the bank and got into a waiting taxi, but soon after the dye exploded, and the taxi driver told him to get out of the car.
Teal ran to the parking lot of the nearby Food Max shopping center but was followed by a bank robbery witness, who pointed him out to arriving police. Teal was arrested and, under police questioning, confessed to the robbery, police said. He was booked into County Jail in Martinez.
