NORTH RICHMOND — Police are searching for suspects in an early morning shooting Saturday that left a 59-year-old man dead outside his home and the victim's 29-year-old son hospitalized with a gunshot wound.
Sheriff deputies responded to a call of a shooting on the 1700 block of 1st Street in North Richmond at about 1:24 a.m. According to Contra Costa County Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee, the officers discovered two shooting victims at the residence. One victim, Lathel Douglas, 59, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, a 29-year-old male, was taken to Doctor's Hospital in San Pablo before being airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.
The identity of the 29-year-old victim was not released by police but they did confirm he was the son of the deceased victim. His medical condition was not released. Police also said the shooting occurred outside the victims' home.
Deputies immediately set up a perimeter around the victims' home but were unable to locate any suspects. The motive of the shooting is still being investigated.
