LIVERMORE — A 30-year-old man was badly beaten by a group of men during a fight at a Livermore transit station on Monday, police said.
About 5:10 p.m. police received a call of a possible shooting on the 2500 block of Railroad Avenue., said Livermore police Lt. Matt Sarsfield. Officers found a man on the ground bleeding from the head. He had three cuts on his face.
Sarsfield said officers have not yet talked to the victim, who remains sedated at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, where he was taken for treatment.
According to police, witnesses said a car pulled up and six men got out. At the same time, three other men walked up to the victim. All appeared to be about 18 to 20 years old.
One man punched the victim and then eight others beat him, Sarsfield said, adding that one of the perpetrators pulled out a gun and fired two rounds into the air.
The beating lasted about 45 seconds. The men who arrived by car — described as a blue or gray sedan — then got back in and left. The men who arrived on foot ran away.
Police are investigating leads to determine if the beating was gang related. They ask anyone with information to call Sarsfield at 925-371-4730.
