MARTINEZ — As part of a statewide holiday crackdown on drunken driving, Martinez police will conduct a DUI checkpoint on city streets in the run-up to New Year's weekend.

The checkpoint is scheduled to last from 6 p.m. Wednesday until midnight Thursday, or New Year's Eve, in the 3700 block of Alhambra Avenue. It is funded by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety as part of a wide-ranging campaign to curb impaired driving, intended to last through Jan. 3.
