MERCED, Calif. -- Merced County authorities say a dispute over a $10 wager at an illegal cockfight ended in two deaths.
Sheriff Mark Pazin says a man pulled out a gun during the dispute early Sunday morning at a home outside Livingston and shot 20-year-old Miguel Orosco. Pazin says the shooter was then chased down by the victim's brother and another man and beaten to death.
The beating suspects, Rafael Orosco and Juan Aguilera, are in custody on suspicion of homicide. Aguilera is hospitalized with a gunshot wound from the incident and is expected to be booked into jail after he's released.
Authorities have not identified the man who was killed after allegedly shooting Miguel Orosco.
Pazin says investigators also are looking into whether the homeowner should face charges over the cockfight.
