Parking in downtown Oakland from 6 a.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday will be restricted for five city blocks as police prepare for possible demonstrations following the sentencing in the Johannes Mehserle case.

No parking is allowed from 12th to 17th streets between Jefferson and Franklin streets. There is no parking in the 1700 block of Telegraph Avenue and none on Broadway between 12th and 19th streets.

The public is encouraged to take public transportation. BART information is available at www.bart.gov. AC Transit info can be found online at www.actransit.org.

Parking also is available at several downtown Oakland garages.
