CONCORD -- Police seek the public's help in finding a driver who fled after fatally striking a woman and her dog Sunday evening in North Concord.

According to police, 52-year-old Sherree Lindborg, of Concord, was walking her dog along Solano Way near Avon Avenue, a half-mile south of Highway 4, about 5:50 p.m. when she stepped onto the roadway, likely to tend to her pet. Lindborg and the dog were hit by a 17-year-old driver headed south on Solano Way.

When the driver stopped and got out to check on the injured woman, another southbound vehicle struck the injured woman, police said. The driver of the second car stopped and spoke briefly with the teenage driver before getting back into his car and driving away.

Soon after police arrived, Lindborg and her pet were pronounced dead. The driver who stopped and stayed was neither arrested nor cited. Traffic investigators say the fleeing driver was described as a white man, about 20 years old with brown hair, clean shaven, traveling with a female passenger in a dark-colored, four-door hatchback.

Anyone with information about the collision can contact traffic investigator Eric Olson at 925-671-3220 or the Concord police tip line at 925-603-5836.
