A California Highway Patrol officer chasing a motorcycle collided with a Honda Accord in Fremont on Sunday, sending the Honda's driver and a passenger to the hospital.

The accident occurred after a CHP officer attempted to stop a motorcycle that was approaching speeds of 120 miles per hour on Interstate 880 south of Whipple Road. The motorcycle exited at Decoto Road, where it was followed by the CHP car, and drove through the intersection at Decoto Road and Paseo Padre Parkway.

A second CHP officer followed, and crossed the intersection during a red light, said CHP officer Mark Williamson. The second CHP car collided with the Honda Accord, which spun out and hit a Lexus stopped at the intersection.

The driver and passenger in the Honda were transported to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, but there were no other injuries that required medical attention, Williamson said.

"At that point, the motorcycle escaped and that was the end of the pursuit," he said. "Both parties were taken to Eden for minor injuries."
