MARTINEZ -- A 50-year-old man spent part of his Thursday afternoon at the Bocce courts near the Martinez marina and wound up the painful recipient of an incident straight out of big-time wrestling.
Only police say there was nothing scripted about it, adding that the man was fortunate not to be hurt worse after 51-year-old Vinn Galvin allegedly hit him in the face with a 55-gallon steel trash can around 4:30 p.m. He was taken via ambulance to Contra Costa Regional Center and is expected to be OK.
Police tag-teamed to interview witnesses and later tracked down Galvin at Rankin Park, where they arrested him on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Martinez police Sgt. Lisa Maloney said.
Police also arrested 42-year-old Lana Lozano, who was with Galvin at Rankin Park. They did not indicate the two were partners in the attack, saying that Lozano was tagged only for being drunk in public.
