SAN RAMON -- A 27-year-old bicyclist was arrested after police found a homemade explosive in his backpack Tuesday night, prompting a response from the county bomb squad.

An officer stopped the man for an undisclosed reason at Alcosta Boulevard and Davona Drive about 11 p.m. and upon searching his backpack found what police described as a "homemade destructive device."

The Walnut Creek Police bomb squad was summoned and disposed of the explosive, police said.

Joshua Cohen, 27, described as a San Ramon and Dublin resident, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a destructive device and was booked into County Jail in Martinez.
