CONCORD -- In response to population growth in the Bay Point area, the Mt. Diablo school board expects to hire a consultant to look at possibly constructing a new school and changing the grade levels at others.
The plan could include converting a middle school to serve students in grades 7-12, extending elementary schools to include sixth grades and constructing a new K-6 or K-8 school.
Trustees on Tuesday may approve a contract not to exceed $160,750 with Nacht and Lewis Architects to help plan use of four Bay Point schools, one Pittsburg school and a Bay Point parcel known as the "Alves property." The district acquired the Alves property, along West Leland Road west of the Pittsburg/Bay Point BART station, for future school construction.
Many Bay Point residents have asked the district to build a high school in the community, since the previous high school was closed more than a decade ago. Bay Point students are bused to Mt. Diablo High School in Concord.
The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the district office at 1936 Carlotta Drive in Concord. More information is available by calling 925-682-8000 ext. 4000 or by visiting http://esbpublic.mdusd.k12.ca.us. Click on Sept. 27, item 14.8.
