MARTINEZ -- Police have identified three more boys who say they were molested by Mt. Diablo school district custodian John Astor, a prosecutor said Thursday, bringing the number of alleged victims to five.
Deputy district attorney Ryan Wagner declined to comment whether Astor, a 44-year-old Walnut Creek resident, knew any of the victims through the district's schools serving Concord, Clayton, Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Pleasant Hill, Martinez, Pacheco and Bay Point. Authorities are releasing few details in an effort to protect the children's anonymity, Wagner said.
Astor pleaded not guilty Thursday to 20 counts of felony child molestation, 10 of which were filed by the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office on Wednesday.
Astor was arrested Dec. 22 on suspicion of molesting two boys: one in Contra Costa County this year and another in San Francisco between 1995 and 2003. Astor did not know those two children from his work, according to police.
Since Astor's arrest, Walnut Creek detectives claim to have identified three additional victims -- all boys under age 14, Wagner said.
Astor remains in custody at County Jail, with his bail at $3 million. He is scheduled to return to court Feb. 2 to set a preliminary hearing date.
