A 69-year-old woman and an alleged accomplice 40 years her junior were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of trying to steal a catalytic converter from a vehicle at a Dublin Park and Ride lot.
Authorities responded to the lot on Grant Line Road, near Interstate 580, Wednesday morning on a report of suspicious activity. There, they found a 26-year-old woman, identified as Ashlee Luchessi, underneath an older-model Toyota pickup truck, said J.D. Nelson, spokesman for the Alameda County Sheriff's office. The woman had a cordless saw, Nelson said, and the catalytic converter was about 75 percent cut off. Additional tools, such as saw blades, were nearby, he said.
The older woman, identified as Christine Dolezal, was acting as a lookout, Nelson said. Both women were booked into Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on suspicion of attempted grand theft; their hometowns were not immediately available.
Nelson said the women admitted to officers that they were trying to take the car part, which contains recyclable metals that can fetch high prices. It was one of their first attempts, Nelson said the women said. On a previous attempt, the women told officers they cut out a muffler, he said.
