RICHMOND -- A hit-and-run driver killed a bicyclist early Wednesday, leaving the man's body lying in the street.

Police not only need help identifying the driver but also the victim, Lt. Bisa French said.

Officers responded to an emergency call about the crash about 1:30 a.m., at Barrett Avenue and 33rd Street in the North and East neighborhood. The bicyclist died at the scene.

Evidence gathered at the intersection suggests the bicyclist rode south on 33rd when the auto broadsided him as he traversed Barrett. The driver fled immediately, police said.

Nobody reported seeing the involved auto, and police had no description of either it or the driver, French said.

Another motorist, who did stop, ran into the bicycle in the road at some point after the collision.

Authorities described the victim as a Latino man in his 20s, about 5 feet tall and weighing about 150 pounds. The bike was described as a blue and purple 21-speed.

Police ask anyone with information to call 510-620-6643.
