DUBLIN -- A bicyclist died after being hit by a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident late Tuesday night, police said.

The fatal crash occurred on Dougherty Road near Fall Creek Road about 11:30 p.m., when a motorist driving a black 2012 Mercedes-Benz hit the man and then drove away, Lt. Herb Walters said.

Moments later, a passer-by called 911 after finding the injured man, Walters said. Paramedics arrived and pronounced the bicyclist dead at the scene, police said.

The victim, whose name is being withheld until his family is notified, appeared to be between 55 and 60 years old, authorities said.

Police said they are not sure if the man was riding his bicycle or walking with it on the four-lane roadway, which has a speed limit of 45 mph.

Police said investigators used vehicle parts found at the scene to determine that the motorist was driving one of three possible 2012 Mercedes-Benz models: CLS500, CLS550 or CLS63.

No arrests have been made and police have found no witnesses, authorities said.

"Doherty Road is a major thoroughfare between Dublin and San Ramon," Walters said. "I'd figure somebody would have seen it at that time of night."
