No more hole-in-the-wall: After one year, Bibo's NY Pizza has proved such a hit that the owners have graduated to a new San Jose location -- with tables. Originally tucked into a space that was nearly as thin as its crust, Bibo's has moved from the rear of the Fairmart Market to a small restaurant at Bird and Minnesota avenues. There are now -- count 'em -- three large booths, six counter stools and two outdoor tables at which to eat a slice or a whole pie. Bibo's is owned and run by brothers Bibo and Fred Elian, whose family roots in New York prompted them to perfect a dough recipe and re-create the style of pizza they love. They also make calzones, apple pie on thin crust and cannolis. Details: Open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. (8 p.m. on Sundays). 1431 Bird Ave., San Jose. 408-217-9084; http://bibosnypizza.com.
Kinch cooks with friends: Birthdays are always festive things, and Michelin-starred Manresa's big 10 is no exception. So chef David Kinch is celebrating the milestone with a little help from his friends -- chefs Michael Cimarusti, John and Karen Shields, Carlo Mirarchi and seven very recognizable Manresa alumni. They're hosting a series of "Cooking With Friends" dinners, from July 11-15, and the weekend tasting menu will include dishes prepared by Charlie Parker, John Paul Carmona, James Syhabout, Jeremy Fox, Belinda Leong, Michael Gaines and Marty Cattaneo.
"I thought the best way to celebrate would be to offer a few one-of-a-kind menus in collaboration with my friends," Kinch said in a statement. "But I'm most excited about the weekend dinners. I've invited some of our former chefs back into the kitchen. It's fun to be working with them again and to see the ideas they have for the menu."
July may feel like a long way off, but given the restaurant's recent accolades -- the Los Gatos restaurant was named one of the top 50 in the world -- reservations are bound to go fast. The anniversary dinners on July 11-13 are $175 per person; the July 14-15 dinners are $198. Details: Manresa, 320 Village Lane, Los Gatos; 408-354-4330, www.manresarestaurant.com.
