CONCORD -- The Mt. Diablo teachers' union has voted to support a tentative contract agreement that calls for a one-time 3 percent payment by June 30, but allows for future furlough days.
About 70 percent of union members voted, with 1,086 in favor of the agreement and 37 against, said Mike Langley, union president. If approved by the school board, he said teachers would get lump-sum payments by June 30 to reimburse them for three furlough days taken last year.
The contract proposal also includes increases in hourly pay rates for summer school and other duties, along with a provision that would make future furlough days or pay increases contingent on state per student funding. In addition, the agreement would allow the union to establish a catastrophic leave bank using sick days, which would be overseen by an internal board.
