ANTIOCH -- An Antioch police detective driving down A Street on Tuesday came across two men bleeding from gunshot wounds, but both are expected to survive, police said.

The two men, a 19-year-old Antioch resident and a 47-year-old Pittsburg resident, were taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek with "wounds that appear to be superficial," Lt. Pat Welch said. "Nothing critical."

It is unclear where the shooting occurred or why, Welch said. The detective was driving his car on A Street around 6:45 p.m. when he came to the Wilbur Avenue intersection near City Park and heard two bleeding men shouting for help. They were standing next to a car that had bullet holes in it.

The men gave conflicting stories regarding what happened, Welch said, and police are investigating, although they don't believe the shooting happened at the location where the victims were found.
