CASTRO VALLEY--A teenage boy was hospitalized Monday with major injuries after being hit by a car while crossing an intersection, police say.
At about 1:40 p.m., the boy was riding his scooter across James Avenue at Redwood Road when he rode out of the crosswalk and into the direction of an oncoming Toyota Camry, said California Highway Patrol Officer Bruce Josslin.
The driver struck him in the intersection, where the boy hit the front hood and windshield before flying over the top of the car and falling to the street, Josslin said.
An ambulance transported him to the hospital where he was treated for major injuries.. The driver suffered only minor injuries, police said.
