The Special Olympics Torch is making its way across California, and will be in Contra Costa County on Tuesday.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., Danville Police will pass the torch to Walnut Creek Police at Broadway Plaza downtown. Then Walnut Creek officers will run with the torch to the Kohl's parking lot near Interstate 680 and Monument Bouevard in Pleasant Hill, where it will then be passed on to Pleasant Hill and Concord police. The torch will then continue its journey to Solano County.
The Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games is a three-day event in which more than 15,700 athletes will take place at UC Davis from June 22-24.
More than 3,500 law enforcement personnel participate in the torch run campaign, according to a news release from the Walnut Creek Police Department. Walnut Creek has been participating in the run for more than 10 years.
