WALNUT CREEK -- Police arrested a Hayward man suspected of breaking into a Walnut Creek home Monday morning.
Just after 6 a.m., a Walnut Creek resident "noticed a strange man standing in the living room of his residence" in the 1200 block of Homestead Avenue, police said.
The startled resident confronted the man, police said, and the suspect fled.
A short time later, police saw the suspect walking on a nearby stretch of Ygnacio Valley Road and detained him.
The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Alfredo Powell, who is on probation for an offense in Alameda County, police said.
Powell was arrested on suspicion of burglary. The resident told police he believes Powell got into the home through an unlocked patio door. The resident said he didn't believe anything was stolen from his home.
