SAN LEANDRO -- An Oakland man wanted for robbing a woman's cell phone was arrested Tuesday night when officers used the phone's locater application to find him, police said.
Adriane Lemay McFadden Jr., 25, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery, Lt. Randall Brandt said.
About 7:05 p.m., the victim was talking on her cell phone in the intersection of San Leandro Boulevard and Parrott Street when a man bumped into her and took the phone from her hand, police said. The man -- later identified as McFadden -- ran to a waiting vehicle and drove away.
Investigators used the phone's GPS application, which provides its location, to direct officers to the intersection of 88th Avenue and D Street in East Oakland, where they found McFadden walking along the street, Brandt said.
McFadden, who was in possession of the stolen phone, was taken into custody without incident, police said. The victim later positively identified him.
He is being held on $55,000 bail at the Hayward city jail and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon.
