CROCKETT -- The three left lanes of westbound Interstate 80 near the Cummings Skyway are closed after a suspected drunk driver crashed near the Carquinez Bridge on Tuesday, the California Highway Patrol said.
The driver suffered serious injuries in the wreck, though the extent of them remained unclear, CHP Officer Pete Van Eckhardt said. The wreck occurred between the Cummings Skyway and the Pomona Street exit at 7:13 p.m., Van Eckhardt said.
The driver of the vehicle, the make of which police did not release, was being investigated for possibly being under the influence of alcohol, Van Eckhardt said. The CHP issued a SIG alert at 7:19 p.m. and told drivers on I-80 to expect long delays.
